Developers Must Now Share Contact Details for EU App Store
Developers operating within the European Union are facing new regulations requiring the disclosure of their public address and phone number on the App Store. This change, effective immediately, aligns with the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), aimed at enhancing transparency for online platforms. Under this act, any developer classified as a 'trader' must publicly list their contact information.
Impact on Developers
The definition of a 'trader' covers developers generating revenue via app sales, in-app purchases, or ads. Developers who only release free apps with no ads are exempt. With these new requirements, failing to submit contact information will prevent developers from updating or adding new apps to the store. Come February 17, 2025, non-compliant apps will be removed.
Developer Concerns
This move has sparked disapproval among developers, primarily due to privacy concerns, as many lack separate business contact details. However, these measures must be enforced, leaving little leeway for Apple. The information will be visibly available beneath each app's description.
For independent developers, the full scope of personal information, including a P.O. Box, phone number, and email, must be shared, while organizations only need to provide phone and email details.
For further guidance, developers are encouraged to consult the Apple Developer website.
