Oppo Introduces ColorOS 15 with Enhanced Animations and Familiar Features

Oppo has unveiled its latest operating system, ColorOS 15, ahead of its release scheduled for November. The Android 15-based update features significant interface enhancements and a series of updates that draw evident inspiration from Apple's iOS.

Key UI Changes and Animation Improvements

At a recent event in China, Oppo showcased ColorOS 15, highlighting several major UI updates. A notable addition is the "Aurora and Tidal Engine," designed to enhance multitasking with smoother animations while switching between apps. The introduction of "Motion Effects" further refines transitions within Oppo and third-party apps, making the user experience more fluid.

Oppo also claims that the new update speeds up app installations by 26% and improves app responsiveness by approximately 18%. Other substantial modifications include the separation of notification shade from Quick Settings, aligning with features seen in Samsung's One UI 7 and rumored future Google Android updates.

Enhanced AI Capabilities

AI plays a prominent role in ColorOS 15, introducing innovative ways to interact with Oppo’s XiaoBu Assistant via natural language processing. This AI-driven assistant allows users to encircle on-screen content to conduct further research. Moreover, AI is leveraged for advanced image processing tasks such as blur removal, image upscaling, and reflection removal. Additionally, AI can summarize content in various apps including Notes and the voice recorder.

Familiar Features Resembling iOS

The promo videos for ColorOS 15 reveal several features conspicuously similar to those from iOS. Oppo incorporates a feature akin to Apple's Dynamic Island and an easily customizable lock screen reminiscent of Apple's design, allowing users to separate wallpaper elements and store multiple lock screen configurations.

The AI assistant interface in ColorOS 15 also bears resemblance to Siri’s layout, highlighted by a colorful light-up border when activated.

Rollout and Compatibility

ColorOS 15 will begin its rollout in November, initially reaching Oppo’s Find X7 line and expanding to a wider range of Oppo and OnePlus devices globally by March next year. Notably, OnePlus is set to introduce its Android 15 update, OxygenOS 15, which is expected to share many of the same features designed for the international market.
