Signal Enhances Group Calling Experience with Custom Links
Streamlined Access to Group Calls
On November 11, 2024, Signal, the widely used encrypted messaging platform, unveiled an exciting update aimed at simplifying group call participation. The new feature allows users to create custom links for group calls, significantly enhancing user experience by eliminating the need for a pre-existing group chat.
How It Works
According to a recent blog post, users can now generate a link directly within the Signal app. To start, navigate to the links tab and click to create a new link. Users have the option to personalize this link with a custom name, and they can also set up approval requirements for participants before joining the call. Moreover, if needed, users can remove attendees during a call or prevent them from rejoining in the future.
Reusable Links and Meeting Management
An additional advantage of this update is the ability to reuse the same link for recurring meetings. This feature is particularly beneficial for users engaged in weekly discussions or organizational gatherings, allowing for consistent access without the hassle of generating a new link each time. Notably, Signal supports group calls accommodating up to 50 participants, making it an ideal tool for larger team interactions.
Additional Features
Besides link generation, the update introduces several enhancements to facilitate smoother interactions during calls. Users can now utilize a 'raise hand' function, which makes it easy to identify who wishes to speak next. Additionally, emoji reactions have been integrated into calls, providing a fun and interactive element to the discussions. Call controls have also been refined, enabling users to activate or deactivate their camera and microphone more conveniently.
Availability
These new functionalities are currently being rolled out across various platforms, including desktop, iOS, and Android devices. Users on iPhone and iPad can download the free app from the App Store. To gain access to these enhanced features, it’s important to ensure that your app is updated to the latest version.
