Veteran Journalist Jarek ‘DeKay’ Lewis has decided to step away from the world of esports for the foreseeable future.

DeKay has been working in the esports space since 2016 and has been a part of some of the biggest news outlets in esports such as Dexerto and DBLTAP and has multiple nominations in the “Esports Journalist of the Year” category by the Esports Awards.

In February 2021, DeKay retired as a full-time journalist and moved on to other projects. According to his statement, he lost all interest in reporting in 2020 and wasn’t enjoying the work at all. He then joined ULTI Agency to work as a Professional Player Agent, to help players in the best possible way he could, which is all he wanted to do – help people, which he explained in his statement.

After working as an Agent for almost 9 months, DeKay decided to call it quits and leave the world of eSports.

He didn’t mince his words and explained how “the esports industry was immature, how the work was unrewarding, the fans thankless and how everyone around was trying to sabotage the other’s work.” DeKay was among the most respected and well-reputed names in CS:GO, alongside the likes of Richard Lewis.

He exclaimed how he was almost burnt out from all the drama and reporters running to break stories first while sabotaging others and lost all interest in the scene.

DeKay thanked Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields and Richard Lewis for their support, even in the early days. The two veterans often receive flak from Twitter and Reddit and even people in the industry for their work, but DeKay said how the esports industry will miss them when they’re gone and how integral they were to the whole scene, especially CS:GO. This holds true for DeKay as well as their work has been unmatched in eSports.

Jarek did not rule out a return altogether and hinted he may even return as an investor at some point, but he also pointed out that he doesn’t see it happening anytime soon.

We thank DeKay for his work in the world of CS:GO and wish him all the luck in his future endeavors.
