HackerOne's Fall Day of Service: Community Impact and Employee Engagement

Together for Change

In the vibrant backdrop of autumn, employees from HackerOne gathered for their Fall Day of Service, an initiative aimed at fostering community connection and promoting social values. This event took place across various locations in the United States and the Netherlands, with over 13 projects designed to positively impact local communities.

Local Gardening Projects

In Colorado and North Carolina, HackerOne employees rolled up their sleeves for local gardening efforts, collaborating with local organizations to harvest vegetables, weed, and rake the soil. This hands-on work not only contributed to sustainable agriculture but also aimed to enhance equitable access to public outdoor spaces, encouraging community well-being and environmental stewardship.

Engaging with Health Facilities

Across the ocean, employees in the Netherlands dedicated their time to uplift patients in health facilities. They engaged with patients through board games and provided them with coffee to brighten their day. The team also ensured patients had safe transportation home, highlighting the importance of compassion and care in community health engagement.

Supporting Food Banks

Meanwhile, in Seattle and San Francisco, teams came together to support local food banks by preparing food for those in need. They verified, sorted, labelled, and repacked food items for distribution.

“Volunteering at Second Harvest Silicon Valley was a meaningful reminder of the impact we create when we come together with a shared purpose. Just as our business relies on a community of hackers working for the greater good to make the internet a safer place, Second Harvest depends on community volunteers to help provide food for over half a million people facing food insecurity in our area.”

  • Frances Pong, Director, Finance Transformation, California, U.S.

Through these activities, HackerOne employees demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility. They understand that volunteering not only helps communities grow but also aids in building lasting connections among team members. Whether engaging in official volunteer events or choosing to support initiatives in their own time, employees have taken the opportunity to use their skills and energy for meaningful causes that promote personal growth and broaden horizons.

“Last year, Ballard Food Bank served 3.5 million pounds of food to feed neighbors in need. Spending the afternoon on the receiving end of countless smiles of delight when handing over bags of food is the best.”

  • Mimi Li, Vice President, Data, Washington, U.S.

This year's Fall Day of Service stands as a testament to HackerOne's dedication to social impact and community involvement. The high engagement showcases what can be accomplished when individuals unite under a common goal, and the company is looking forward to more opportunities to give back and serve communities in the future.
