Eglu Pro Chicken Coop: An Innovative Solution for Backyard Farmers
Urban Farming Goes Chic Backyard chicken farming, once a simple suburban pastime, is now rapidly becoming a chic hobby. As an aficionado with a flock of five hens in Phoenix, Arizona, I've experienced this firsthand. These delightful creatures quickly become more than just pets—they're family, which makes their well-being a top priority. This concern for their comfort and security is why the Eglu Pro, the latest coop from London's Omlet, captured my attention.
Promises of Protection and Convenience
The Eglu Pro is designed with dual priorities in mind: predator-proofing and ease of maintenance. Its ladder, a result of 146 prototypes, is just one ergonomic feature aiming at functionality. Moreover, its durable, smooth plastic surface promises easy cleaning, a significant boon for any chicken owner. Omlet claims this coop can withstand the test of time, standing strong against the elements.
Assembly: A Team Effort
Intended for up to 10 large hens, the Eglu Pro comfortably housed our flock of four large hens and one smaller one, even during Phoenix's record summer heatwave, with 70 days of 110-degree Fahrenheit temperatures. Prior to the Eglu Pro, our hens experienced less-than-ideal conditions. Their previous wooden coop lacked adequate ventilation and showed signs of wear and tear.
Transitioning to the Eglu Pro was a team effort. The assembly proved to be a group project, but once completed, it held up well during a four-week trial. Our hens, humorously named Moira, Heihei, Mabel, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Dolly Parton, took to the new setup quickly.
The innovative design of the Eglu Pro offers a compelling option for those passionate about backyard farming, merging practicality with sophisticated flair.
