Apple has been making strides in the digital wallet space, and its car key feature is generating a lot of interest. During the celebration of a decade of Apple Pay, Apple previewed its future plans for car keys integrated into Apple Wallet.

Expanding the Car Key Ecosystem

In a recent interview, Jennifer Bailey, Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, disclosed Apple's growing partnership network to support car keys. Currently playing ball with over 30 automobile manufacturers, Apple aims to broaden digital car key compatibility.

Bailey highlighted a particularly exciting potential use case: contactless car rentals. She envisioned a seamless experience where users can book a rental, verify their identity digitally, and receive a digital key via Apple Wallet to unlock and operate the vehicle without any physical interaction.

More Manufacturers on Board

At present, eight car manufacturers offer models with integrated car key functionality. However, the active involvement of more than 30 manufacturers sets the stage for significant advancements in the coming years. This development promises to enhance the integration of digital solutions in the automotive rental domain.

Bailey's comments hint that this feature is a priority for Apple's development teams, suggesting that Apple might soon announce enhancements to its Car Key capabilities, particularly in the rental sector.
